Getting started

Requesting access

To use FLAME compute resources, your research group needs to be granted access via an allocation.

See Requesting access for details on how FLAME allocations work, the criteria for using FLAME, and how to request access.

Ways to use FLAME

Once you have FLAME access, there are two main ways to use it, depending on your needs:

  • Web interface (JupyterHub)

Launch interactive notebooks with GPU access directly from your browser. The simplest way to get started.

    Using JupyterHub

  • Command line (kubectl)

For large-scale training jobs, automation, and advanced workflows. Requires installing software on your workstation.

    CLI access

Start with JupyterHub

Even if you plan to use the command line, we recommend starting with JupyterHub to get familiar with FLAME. You can move to CLI access later when you need more control.

You can also read the Kubernetes and Storage reference pages for background on how FLAME works under the hood.
